Hello God. It's me, Mara

Mending day

You know, Lord, mending day happens; there are sox, shirts, slacks, oh, you name it and it probably needs mending. Besides clothing, there is upholstery, fences, relationships, and even broken hearts to mend. Mending clothing isn’t too complicated — we just need to get busy and do it. We are thankful and grateful that our mom showed us girls how to mend clothes and our daddy showed us how to mend fences, and You, Lord, show us how to mend relationships and You help everyone who has a broken heart. And we’re so thankful that You, Lord, are “part” of our family.

Mending takes time and patience; with clothes, needle and thread, scissors and patches and sometimes even the sewing machine is put to work. When the mending basket gets full, it’s time to get to work.  Once started one can always ask You to bless the owner of the item of clothing we’re mending.

Sox are easiest to mend, fences are not impossible; they just take a whole different set of tools.  Relationships take time and lots of prayer; but the hardest of all to mend is a broken heart. And hearts do break; that is where You come in, Lord.  We are told to guard our hearts for they are the wellspring of life. Helping to break hearts, we read in Proverbs (12:18-19)  “one who speaks like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. The truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” Your Word says that You make new hearts and that our hearts shall live for ever! You, oh Lord, are in the heart mending business. Grant us the grace to use wise tongues to promote health, to be menders, not breakers of hearts. Thank you, Lord.

Love, Mara
