Eighty-nine shooters participated in the 39th annual Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club Spring Shoot held May 26-28 at historical Fort Assinniboine south of Havre. The weather was excellent with little to no wind and temperatures in the high 70s and 80s and shooting conditions were rated as excellent.
Cameron Griggs, Havre, captured the Overall Aggregate trophy with a score of 210 in five matches including 25-yard offhand, 50-yard offhand, 100-yard offhand, 50-yard cross sticks and 100-yard cross sticks. Griggs also took the Offhand Aggregate with 125 points and Cross Stick Aggregate with 85 points on two targets, 50 and 100 yards.
The Pistol Aggregate went to Dick Hanson, Havre, with 163x points on two targets, 25-yard and 50-yard both scoring a possible 100 points each.
The Women's Aggregate was claimed by Lacey Huseby, Havre, with 125 points on three targets, 25-OH, 50-OH and 50 cross sticks.
In the black powder cartridge events Jim Litzinger, won the Men's Cartridge Aggregate with 157xxx on four targets; Women's Aggregate went to Kathy Lynch, Havre, with 103 and the Junior Aggregate was won by Lacey Huseby, Havre, with 105. The cartridge events consist of four targets including 25-yard offhand, 50-yard offhand, 100-yard offhand and 100-yard cross sticks
Tom Brown, Havre, won the Primitive Aggregate event with a score of 114. The event includes 20 different fun shots such as cut a playing card, cut the strings, split the ball on ax head, frogs on a log shot from a canoe and several long range shots.
The Long Range Aggregate for black powder cartridge was won by Pete Huseby, Havre, with a string of 4 hits on the four longest targets. This event consists of an offhand target at 270 yards and four cross stick targets a pig at 320 yards, turkey at 350 yards, ram at 368 yards and buffalo at 580 yards.
Hawk and Knife throw for adults was won by Nick Owens, Helena, and for juniors Ty Owens, Helena, was the winner.
The Frying Pan Throw for women was won by Amanda Owens, Havre, 54 ft. 1 in.; seniors division went to Jolene Hanson, Havre, 41 ft. 11 in.; juniors division was won by Paige Parsons, Havre, 29 ft. 6 in.; pee-wee division went to Leighton Owens, Havre, 46 ft.
The fire starting/pancake race was won by Kayla Griggs and Nic Harvie at 1:30 minutes and Todd Owens and Jacinta Hedstrom at 1:11 minutes.
