Small diesel spill at Havre BNSF yard

By Tim Leeds

BNSF said today a spill occurred in its Havre railyard, with an estimate of 100 gallons of a mixture of water diesel spilling from its wastewater treatment facility.

Spokesman Ross Lane said the spill was detected this morning and had stopped by 7:30 a.m.

He said the spill had hit the Milk River, and equipment was in place about 4 miles and 7 miles downstream to catch the leading edge of the spill in the river. Lane said the estimate of the amount hitting the river is in the 10s of gallons, but the exact amount is not known.

Lane said the cause of the spill was not known as of early this afternoon.
