The Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team was busy over the weekend, playing games in both the Montana Baseball League and the Northern A District.
The game within the Montana Baseball League came Saturday night at Legion Field, as the Northstars played host to Miles City. Yet the home field advantage wasn’t enough for the Northstars to pull out the win, as they were defeated by a score of 8-2 at Legion Field.
Tony Antley was the starting pitcher for the Northstars and pitched all seven innings but allowed eight runs on 10 hits. Miles city had just five runs going into the seventh inning, but Havre gave up three runs and failed to score any in the seventh, handing the Northstars their sixth loss of the season.
Miles City opened the game with three runs in the top of the first, before adding a run each in the top of the second and third innings. Antley, who finished the game with four strikeouts on the mound, tried to help his own cause with RBIs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome five errors. Havre also finished with just five hits.
After playing host to Miles City, the Northstars went on the road for their first conference action of the season and it came on the road, in a doubleheader against the Tri-County Cardinals. Havre split the two-game set on the road, earning a 4-2 win over the Cardinals, with Brendan Garden getting the win. However, the Northstars were unable to come away with a sweep, as the Cardinals also took a game. Tri-County got to starting pitcher Brenden Danielson and the Northstars eventually allowed eight runs, while scoring just five in a 8-5 defeat.
After going 1-2 Saturday and Sunday, the Northstars are now 5-7 on the season. Havre will be off this next week, but will be back in Northern A District action next Monday, as the Northstars will host Great Falls in a district doubleheader. The first pitch will go out at 5 p.m., inside Legion Field.
