Last summer, a discussion spread across Havre’s Facebook community regarding the issue of litter. The overwhelming majority of Havre residents are responsible citizens that pick up after themselves, but it only takes a small number of thoughtless people to make our sidewalks and parks look messy. “Civic duty,” is a phrase we don’t hear much of these days. We all have a responsibility to help our community function and thrive, in big ways and small.
Out of the litter discussion, and at the suggestion of Paul Tuss, Havre Parks and Recreation’s “Adopt A Park” initiative started last year. Fourteen Havre area businesses and organizations committed to each adopt one of our public parks, visit it on a regular basis, and pick up litter:
Sassy Bass Inc.
Angel Care LLC
Havre Jaycees
Havre Masonic Lodge
Havre Boy Scouts
Timber Creek Village
Bear Paw Development Corp.
Bullhook Blossoms Garden Club
Havre Optometric
Havre Elks Lodge #1201
Seigels for the City
District 4 HRDC
Havre Chamber Ambassadors
Havre Lions Club
The Adopt A Park initiative was a great success, and we thank everyone who participated. Havre’s outdoor activity season was cut short by the Great October Blizzard of 2017, but our parks are finally being opened up for 2018.
If you are part of a business, club, church or organization that would like to learn more about adopting a city park this summer, feel free to email me at chutchins@ci.havre.mt.us or call me at 945-0340 for more information.
We can all do our part to make our community a prettier, cleaner, happier place.
