HHS Film Screening open to public

Students present their films and audience will vote at event

Monday, at 6:30 p.m., Havre High School will play host to the HHS and Hi-Line Documentary and Shorts Film Screening.

The screening is a competition and also a night to celebrate the work of the Havre High School Media Production students, a joint letter from Havre High business teacher Vicki Proctor and Media Productions student tutor Christian Sorensen says.

Students will present their projects with the theme of a social concern at this screening, and explain why they chose the topic for the film and the importance of the topic to them personally. They will also share any interesting details and their approach to making the film.

Participants presenting their film projects are Natalie Verploegen, Christian Sorensen, Mariah Olson, Laetitia Witt, SeRim Jeong, Abigail Berger, Sydney Doney, Gryphon Guyant, Grace Loftus, Cole Hanson and Jada Paulson.

“This is a cooperative project that evolved last year into a high-school sponsored activity,” Proctor wrote in an email. “Up until last year, it was called the Yellow Bus Creations Film Festival where our students entered projects which had a regional-type of competitive feel with prize monies sponsored by the Yellow Bus Committee.”

Last year, discouraged by the fact that not many students were able to attend the event, after more than 12 years of holding the screening, it was decided to approach the screening another way, Proctor said.

Prizes and plaques are still sponsored by the Yellow Bus Committee, but the activity is now held at the high school and the audience will vote on the winners.

Proctor added that the idea of the event being held at the high school was suggested by Sorensen.

Yellow Bus Creations core members are Dave and Kris Shaw, Kevin and Rita Campbell and Lois Gilge.

The screening will be held in Room 28 and is free but an RSVP is needed. For more information or to RSVP, people can email Proctor at [email protected]/.
