Cottonwood schools holding recount on levy

Editor’s note: This version corrects that the general fund levy failed.

Cottonwood schools has released the results of its canvas of school elections, which has led to a recount on a vote on a building reserve fund levy.

The official results of the May 8 election, which were canvassed Wednesday, were to deny a general fund levy 38 votes to 46 votes, but the vote for the building reserve levy tied at 42.

Serena Dawson, election administrator and clerk for the district, said a recount on the building reserve levy election will be held at 3:30 p.m Monday at the Cottonwood West School.

The building reserve levy would generate $15,000 over a three-year period at a cost of an extra $2.07 in property taxes for the owner of a home with a marketable value of $100,000.

The general fund levy that failed would have brought $12,054.30 for the district and will cost the owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 an additional $4.98 a year in property taxes.
