Several items were misreported or unclear in “Local scout troops work together on Scouts BSA changes” printed in Thursday’s edition of the Havre Daily News.
While the name of the program for youths ages 11-18 is changing to Scouts BSA, the name of the overall national program that also includes Cub Scouts and Venturers is still Boy Scouts of America.
Longtime Eagle Scout Bill Lanier is the Hi-Line Committee chair.
The change to allow girls into programs is for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA. Cub Scouts did not previously allow girls to join, although the Venture program and former Explorer program did.
Lanier did not say people are already participating in both Brownies and Cub Scouts, but that some girls are looking forward to participating in Cub Scouts.
The article reported troops having options for all-girl, all-boy or family, when it should have read: “Cub Scout charter organizations will be given the option of setting an all-boy pack, an all-girl pack or a family pack, with the different dens also doing projects and activities together, while still offering time to their respective dens.”
The story also referred to units as chapters.
