The 2018 recruiting class continues to grow for head coach Chris Mouat's Montana State University-Northern Skylights.
Earlier this week, Mouat announced the signings of Swedish guard Petra Sellin and Columbia Falls' standout forward Sydney Hovde to NAIA national letters of intent.
Sellin is a 5-9 guard from Angelholm, Sweden. She is transferring to Northern from NCAA Division II Cameron University. Sellin played in the Second League in Sweden for three seasons. In 2015-2016, she averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. She was a member of the Under-15 Swedish Regional and National teams, and played for her State Under-16, Under-17, and Under-18 teams.
In 2017, Sellin signed with NCAA Division II member Cameron University where she spent two seasons playing for the Aggies. As a freshman, she saw action in 22 games and started twice. As a sophomore, she appeared in 28 games and started one.
"Petra has good length and can play up to three positions on the floor," Mouat said. "She is a good three-point shooter, sees the floor well, and excellent from the free throw line (80 percent). Beyond that, she is an excellent student and a person that I think will be a really good fit in our program."
Sellin carries a 3.7 grade point average. She plans on majoring in business at MSU-Northern. She is the daughter of Tina Vilhelmsson and Jorgen Sellin.
Hovde, a 6-0 forward from Columbia Falls, is coming to Northern after a year playing at North Idaho College.
"Sydney is a good edition for us," Mouat said. "She brings size and rebounding, and she comes with a year of playing quality basketball under her belt. She plays hard and will be a great fit in our program."
This past season, Hovde averaged 28 minutes per game for the Cardinals, shooting 58 percent from the field, while averaging 10 points and nine rebounds per game. At Columbia Falls, Hovde was a member of the 2017 Class A state championship team, and an All-State performer.
"The fact that Sydney does a great job on the offensive boards is big for us," Mouat said. She averaged five a game and is really efficient around the basket."
Hovde is the daughter of Mike and Terri Hovde. She plans on majoring in nursing at MSU-N.
