MSU-N rodeo teams wrap up successful spring season

The Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams wrapped up the 2018 Big Sky Region season last weekend in Great Falls. But one Skylight standout's season isn't over yet.

Northern's Tara Stimpson, who finished second in barrel racing at the University of Providence Rodeo in Great Falls, has qualified for the 2018 College National Finals Rodeo. Stimpson will compete in barrel racing at the CNFR June 9-16 in Casper, Wyoming.

As for the action at last weekend's Providence Rodeo, Northern's Yancy Hawley led the way for the Lights with a fourth-place finish in saddle bronc riding. Zane Marcenko and Clay Doney also placed fourth in the team roping, while Shane Bird Rattler was second in the saddle bronc.

Stimpson placed fifth in the barrel racing Friday night, before placing second Saturday.

Skylight Paige Raty also placed third in breakaway roping, while Kassidy Williamson finished fifth in goat tying for the Northern women.
