A Democratic congressional candidate will be in the area Friday meeting with local officials and has invited people to stop in and visit with him in the evening.
John Heenan of Billings plans to meet with officials in the area including county commissioners, the tribal council at Fort Belknap and community leaders, said Rep. Jacob Bachmeier, D-Havre, a regional field director for Heenan.
He is inviting people to stop in at the home of Renelle Braaten at 1020 Assiniboine Ave. from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to have drinks and snacks on the patio, Bachmeier said.
Heenan just wants to spend the evening with people to thank them for their support, he added.
Heenan is in a crowded Democratic primary in the race for the seat now held by Rep. Greg Gianforte, R-Mont., who won a special election when Republican Ryan Zinke resigned to take office as secretary of the interior.
Heenan faces Grant Kier of Helena, John Meyer of Bozeman, Jared Pettinato of Bozeman and Kathleen Williams of Bozeman in the Democratic primary.
Democrat Lynda Moss of Billings announced last week she was withdrawing from the race.
Gianforte is the only Republican candidate in the race. He will face the winner of the Democratic primary as well as Green Party candidate Doug Campbell of Bozeman and Libertarian candidate Elinor Swanson of Billings in November’s general election.
