This Saturday evening a benefit will be held for Havre Eagles member Lyle Bender who was in the hospital and now needs help paying his medical bills.
Bender who is a member of the Havre Eagles was in the hospital for a couple of weeks after a back injury. Bender’s friend and the organizer of the benefit, Jhameil “J.B.” Moore, said that Bender’s back is continuing to give him problems but he is still working hard to pay off his medical bills.
“He is hardworking; very dedicated … always helping out other people,” Moore said about his friend, “I would consider him a pillar of the community.”
Moore said this is the reason he wanted to hold the benefit for Bender. He brought it up at the Eagles meeting and it was decided to have the event.
Moore said when he found out that Eagles Club Manager Tom Farnham, who was supposed to prepare the meal, wouldn’t be able to because of illness he decided to take it upon himself.
“I got the recipe from him,” he said.
He added that he wants the benefit to go on so he is going to try his best to make the pork loins like Farnham does.
He said he knows that Bender would never ask for help himself, and he is the kind of person who has always helped at others’ benefits and fundraisers and still donates to those who need it.
“Sometimes we need to give them a hand,” Moore said, “Somebody needs to take the initiative.”
The benefit will be held at the Havre’s Eagle Club April 28 and serving will start at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 a plate for the pork loin dinner.
There is also an open benefit account for Bender at Bear Paw Credit Union.
