Help overcome STDs in STD Awareness Month

April is Sexually Transmitted Disease Awareness Month, an annual observance to raise public awareness about the impact of sexually transmitted diseases on the lives of Americans and the importance of individuals discussing sexual health with their health care providers and, if sexually active, their partners.

STDs are a major public health issue in the United States. The Center for Disease Control estimates that there are approximately 20 million new cases of STDs in the U.S. each year, almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24.

Many of those who are infected don’t know it. Many STDs do not have any symptoms. The only way to know for sure whether you have an STD is to get tested.

Throughout the month of April, spread the word on the prevention of STDs. Join with other organizations to highlight the impacts of STDs, promote individual involvement, and develop events and activities to raise awareness of STDs.

STDs are preventable and treatable. Working together to build awareness will help us prevent the spread of STDs in our community.

STDs are our challenge to overcome. Let’s work together now.

For questions about testing or treatment call the Hill County Health Department at 265-5481, ext. 2415, or visit your primary medical provider.
