Candace A. Velk, a loving mother and wife, educator, and reading enthusiast, current resident of Boise, ID passed away Nov. 25, 2017, at the age of 65.
Candace was born in Chandler, Arizona, April 27, 1952 to R.J. Puckett and Mary Flynn. She lived in Riverside, CA, during her younger years through high school, where she formed lifelong friendships she treasured deeply. She met her husband, Vic, in Chicago, IL, in 1972 and they later married October 6, 1973. She had a passion for reading and learning that drove her 20-year career in education. She graduated with her bachelor's degree and master's in elementary education from Northern Montana College. She spent ten years at St. Jude's Catholic School, where her girls attended, and another 10 years with the Havre Public School District.
Candace was a wonderful mother to her three daughters and adored her seven grandchildren. She was a constant supporter and cheerleader for all of their endeavors. She was often found court/field side supporting her grandchildren and loved all family time spent together. She loved the arts and had a passion for all concerts and theater productions.
She was a friend to many with her big heart and sharp wit. The family is very grateful for the family, friends, and care providers who have supported and surrounded Candace in recent years.
Candace is survived by her husband, Victor Velk; her children, Lindsey Wichs O'Brien (Steve) of Great Falls, MT, Meghan Swan (Jason) of Boise, ID, and Samantha Richards (Dan'l) of Meridian, ID; her grandchildren, Kaiden, Tenley, and Brady Wicks, Abigail and Kendall Swan, Peyton and Haddie Richards; her father, R.J. Puckett; and sister, Mary Henderson.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Flynn, and other family members.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for noon, April 27, 2018 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre, MT. In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider donating to a local school or library.
