News you can use
One day at a time
You know, Lord, more than one of us has thought, even declared, that if we could just live through this day, we could probably handle about anything that comes along!! But, guess what, we’ve all done it, planning to do more than we could possibly manage in just one day.
Cousin “Marie” sent a clipping: “How to Ruin Your Day Without Really Trying.” That fits perfectly for today as we’ve planned about twice as much as can possibly be accomplished! Then, unfortunately we probably demand perfection, not only of ourselves but of others, too. Then we imagine that we’ve earned the right to be miserable when something actually does go wrong. In a calmer moment we can see the error in that kind of thinking! When one is so busy one can not possible see above the piles of things to do, that are even worth doing. (But at least then, one isn’t worrying about every little thing, right?)
Forgive us, Lord, but sometimes our sense of humor is lost somewhere in those piles and heaps. Since we’ve about had it for this day, Lord, help us out of the mess we got ourselves into — just one more time, Lord? Then, maybe we’ll take time to re-examine our ways and try to become more flexible. Lord, help us to be willing to try to be what You would have me to be.
What we need are some Lifesavers like: Meadowlarks for alarm clocks, oven-hot muffins for breakfast, a chocolate candy bar for a treat, watching robins in the birdbath, Miss “Olive” making us a special Sundae, etc …
Lord, we need to remember Psalm 18:2: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Love, Mara
