Group encouraging young people to register and vote
A nonpartisan group is ending a state tour of college campuses in Havre today, inviting students from Montana State University-Northern to come down to Triple Dog Brewing Co. to have a free beer and talk about democracy.
Forward Montana Foundation started recruiting voters at Flathead Community College and hit another six campus communities before coming to Havre. The group will be at Triple Dog at 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to talk to anyone “interested in learning more about how young Montanans can engage in democracy.”
A release about the tour said the people on the trip registered nearly 200 voters so far.
“During the Campus Tour Stop, attendees will enjoy a free beer and learn more about the work that (Forward Montana) does across the state to engage, educate and mobilize young Montanans in politics,” the release said.
The foundation’s website says its dream is envisioning “a Montana in which young people drive policy discussions and their friends to the polls; a Montana in which young people turn out for each other, just like they turn out for the issues they care about; a Montana where young people’s voices and actions echo through the halls of the State Capitol and the local school board; a Montana where young people’s votes define elections and the make-up of our government.”
