MSU-Northern to host an open rodeo on Saturday

Northern rodeo teams a week away from the start of the spring season

The Montana State University-Northern rodeo team is gearing up for the start of the 2018 Big Sky Region spring season. But, before the season officially gets underway next weekend, Northern will host an event inside the Bigger Better Barn.

Saturday night, Northern will host an open rodeo, featuring steer wrestling, saddle bronc, bull riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping and barrel roping. There will also be goat-tying as well as plenty of prizes, including Buckle Series Champions awards.

The rodeo is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with an admission price of $5, while kids enter free.

Northern, which is under the direction of head coach Doug Kallenberger, finished the 2017 fall season strong, especially the men's team. So now, the Lights and Skylights will turn their attention to the spring season, with four rodeos set for the next two months.

The Big Sky spring season begins with the Montana State University Rodeo April 12-15 in Bozeman. Northern then travels to Miles City for the Miles Community College Rodeo April 20-22, followed by the University of Montana Rodeo April 27-28 in Missoula. The Big Sky season wraps up with the University of Providence Rodeo May 4-5 in Great Falls.
