News you can use
Friends have set up a couple of benefits for Randy Martin of Havre to help him with his ongoing battle with widespread cancer, including a Crunch For A Cause Taco John's benefit Thursday.
A GoFundMe account also has been set up to help Randy and Laura Martin pay for expenses of traveling to treatment, which has taken them to Kalispell and to Phoenix so far, and help cover lost wages from not being able to work at his job with the railroad.
"We all know Randy and Laura would never ask for any help, which is exactly why we should help," the GoFundMe page says. "Randy has always been willing to help out anyone, and we ask you help him out."
The Martins are well-known in the community, active members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, both members of the VFW Honor Guard and longtime volunteers with the Bear Paw Jr. Rifle Club.
In the Crunch for a Cause benefit Thursday, anyone making a purchase at Taco John's between 5 and 7 p.m. can say they are donating to the Randy Martin benefit and 50 percent of the purchase price will go to his account.
Another benefit will be held April 19 for people who would like to buy some pizza while helping the Martins. That Thursday, anyone making a purchase at Pizza Hut all day can say they are donating to Randy Martin and 20 percent of the purchase price will go to his account. Jars in which people can make free-will donations also will be set up in the restaurant.
