2018 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Girls Team

To say it was an incredible year for girls basketball on the Hi-Line would be a gross understatement. After all, on the same night, two area teams won state championships.

Those two teams, Havre High and Box Elder, along with the success of the Rocky Boy girls, the Harlem girls, Fort Benton, and the incredible story of the Turner Tornadoes, made this past winter one for the girls basketball record books.

So, it should come as no surprise that, the 2018 All Hi-Line Girls Team is loaded with accomplished and talented players. In fact, the list is so loaded that, there just wasn't room for every player deserving of the honor this season.

Also of no surprise, the 2018 All Hi-Line Team is flush with players from Havre, Box Elder and Rocky Boy and is also pretty top-heavy with upperclassmen. The list is composed of eight seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. There are also seven repeat performers, and 13 of the 14 players voted onto the squad were All-State selections this season.

Kyndall Keller, Havre

Keller was the top scorer in Class A and in Havre's remarkable unbeaten season, she capped it all with Class A Tournament MVP honors. Already considered one of the top college prospects in Montana, Keller earned All-State honors for the second straight season, as well as First-Team All Central A honors for the second year in a row. Keller also averaged more than 15 ppg for a second straight time, and her dominance was capped with a coveted Class A championship for the Blue Ponies. Keller will also eventually become only the second girls to be a four-time All Hi-Line selection.

Lillian Gopher, Box Elder

Like Keller, Gopher is making her second appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. Like Keller, she was also a state champion and a state tourney MVP this year. She led the Bears in scoring and assists this season, averaging 17 ppg and more than five assists per outing. Gopher is also a three-time all 9C selection, and a two-time Class C All-State performer, and heading into her senior season in Box Elder she, too, will be considered an elite college prospect.

Jaylynn Mitchell, Rocky Boy

A senior, Mitchell is on the All Hi-Line Team for the second straight year. She was Rocky Boy's biggest post presence in what was a historical season for the Morning Stars. Mitchell earned 1B First-Team All-Conference honors after averaging 14 points and nine rebounds per night.

Danielle Wallace, Havre

Wallace is on the All Hi-Line Team for the first time, and she's one of four Blue Ponies to make the list. Wallace was Havre's anchor in the post, leading HHS in rebounding and blocked shots. She was also Havre's second-leading scorer and was a huge reason why the Ponies ran away with the state championship. For her efforts, Wallace earned Central A honors for the second time, as well as Class A All-State accolades.

Leah Gannon, Fort Benton

Another repeat performer on the All Hi-Line Team, Gannon was again Fort Benton's spark plug. The do-it-all guard helped the Longhorns win the 9C championship, and also go deep into the Northern C last month in Great Falls. The track and field star averaged over 15 ppg on her way to Class C All-State honors for the second year in a row.

Joelnell Momberg, Box Elder

Like Havre's Keller, Momberg has a great shot to be a four-time All Hi-Line honoree. She made the list as a freshman, and was even more dynamic in her sophomore year. Momberg can play four different positions, and on her way to Class C All-State honors, she averaged 13 points and seven rebounds a game for the state champion Bears.

Sean Henry, Rocky Boy

Part of a senior trio of Morning Stars to make the All Hi-Line Team, Henry ran the show for Rocky Boy and head coach Cameron McCormick. She was a bona fide scorer, averaging over 15 ppg, but her point guard skill and her defense were a big reason why Rocky Boy won its first-ever 1B and Northern B titles. Henry was also a Class B All-State selection.

Marca Herron, Havre

What a special season it was for not only the Blue Ponies, but Herron. Hampered by an illness as a junior, Herron returned with a vengeance for her senior season. She averaged over 10 ppg, and was outstanding shooting the 3-pointer for head coach Dustin Kraske. The state champion and University of Providence commit also earned Class A All-State honors for the first time in her four-year varsity career.

Cecillia Vielle, Box Elder

Had Vielle played for the Bears for all four years, she might have been a four-time All Hi-Line performer herself. But in her senior season, after transferring from Centerville, Vielle was a force from start to finish. She averaged a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing almost 11 boards per game, on her way to Class C All-State honors. And her dominance inside helped fuel the Bears to their first state title in 20 years.

Adrienne Gopher, Rocky Boy

The third Morning Star to make the All Hi-Line Team, Gopher led the high-scorning Morning Stars with 19 ppg. She was a standout shooter for Rocky Boy and had huge games in both the 1B and Northern B title tilts. For her efforts, Gopher was named First-Team 1B and Class B All-State, and, in what was a remarkable year, she joins her cousin Lillian on the prestigious All Hi-Line list.

Aspen Giese, Fort Benton

For the fourth straight year, a freshmen is on the All Hi-Line Team. Giese was outstanding for the Longhorns all season, but she took it to another level in the postseason. In the 9C tournament, she averaged over 20 ppg, and hit the game-winner in overtime against Box Elder to give the Horns their second 9C title in the last four years. In her first season on the hardwood, Giese earned Class C All-State accolades.

L'Tia Lawrence, Harlem

Lawrence was one of three freshman to make the All Hi-Line Team a year ago, and along with Box Elder's Joelnell Momberg and Havre's Kyndall Keller, she now has a shot to make it four years in a row. Lawrence led the Wildcats in their historical season with a 15 ppg average, and for the second straight year, earned Class B All-State honors.

Kaylee Nystrom, Havre

Nystrom has been a staple for head coach Dustin Kraske's Blue Ponies, but in her final season at HHS, she exploded. On her way to Central A All-Conference honors, Nystrom was considered the best defender in Class A, leading the entire class in steals. She was also a strong floor general for the Ponies, and scored in double figures many different nights on Havre's way to an undefeated season.

Paij Peterson, North Star

A junior, Peterson makes the All Hi-Line Team for the yet another year. While the Knights had an up-and-down season, Peterson was a consistent force, averaging 13 points and six rebounds per outing. Peterson was selected 9C All-Conference for the third year in a row, just as she was after an outstanding season in volleyball back in the fall.
