Winter weather advisory in effect through mid-afternoon
Warmer temperatures than this part of north-central Montana endured through much of the winter are expected to continue through the weekend, but winter is not going away with more snow also in the forecast in a record-setting year.
The local forecast calls for snow off and on through Monday morning.
That continues a record-setting trend in the state, including in north-central Montana. In Havre, National Weather Service reports its station at the Havre City-County Airport has recorded 79.8 inches, almost 7 feet, of snow falling since July 1, a new record for this time of the year.
Weather Service also has a winter weather advisory in effect for most of north-central Montana through this afternoon and a winter storm warning in effect through 6 p.m. today on the Rocky Mountain Front.
The winter weather advisory extends from Toole through Blaine counties and south through Cascade, Judith Basin and Fergus counties. The advisory says the region should expect mixed precipitation with new snow accumulation of up to two inches with some areas seeing up to four inches, and ice also expected to accumulate.
Occasional snow showers are in the forecast for Friday afternoon, as well as late-night snow showers Saturday and more snow showers Sunday and Monday morning.
The temperatures are expected to continue to moderate to more-normal levels, with no below-zero temperatures, high or low, in the Weather Channel forecast for Havre through March 29.
Highs are predicted to range from the low- to high-30s through the end of next week, with lows in the teens and 20s.
The winter weather has been harsh, record-setting on many days in many regions including this part of Montana, through much of the winter. Below-zero lows and even highs have persisted for unusual lengths of time and consistency through early march in this part of Montana, and many days have had record-setting snowfall starting the first week of October and on multiple occasions in this part of Montana and throughout the state.
