Havre’s annual Breakfast for Literacy will take place Sunday, March 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Havre Eagles Club.
The Eagles Auxiliary will prepare a breakfast that includes pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee. Tickets for the event are $10 per person with children from birth to age 2 free.
Each year, the event recognizes one children’s author for his/her contribution to early literacy. This year Eric Carle, famously known for “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” will be the featured author.
Havre High School’s Key Club will provide a variety of activities for the children around the “Save the Bees” theme, which includes pollination activity, finger plays, building Mason Bee hives, photo booth, and many more. The Bullhook Blossom Garden Club will also provide materials and activities for the children. New to the event will be a book swap. Children are invited to bring along gentle used books to swap for other books.
Some baskets have already been donated for the silent auction, which will support other literacy activities for Plant a Seed … READ! New this year a live auction includes a barn bookcase, dollhouse bookcase and a metal sunflower sculpture by Willard Vaughn. Also new to the fun is a Grub Grab, which is a fun way to get gift cards from local restaurants. People who are interested in donating a silent auction basket, items or money toward a basket can contact Bridget Kallenberger at 262-2490 or email [email protected].
Breakfast for Literacy kicks off the annual campaign for Plant a Seed…READ!. The yearly campaign runs from April 1 through June 30. During the campaign, community members can make a difference in a young child’s life by donating to Plant a Seed … READ!, which will go to all literacy activities or by adopting a reader into the Imagination Library program for $30 per year per child. People can learn more about the program at the 2018 Breakfast for Literacy.
