HPS Ed Foundation accepting scholarship applications

The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation has 22 scholarship opportunities available for 2018 Havre High School graduates. A few of the applications are also offered to Hi-Line, North Star High School and continuing education students.

One online scholarship application form is used to apply for any and all of the scholarships. The application form can be found on the Foundation website at http://www.hpseducationfoundation.com/. A few of the applications require specific criteria along with the general information form. Applicants need to read each description and include requested additional information for the best chance to be selected to receive a scholarship. Recipients are selected by the scholarship donor or the HHS Scholarship Committee. If there are any questions, an applicant may contact the foundation via email at [email protected], by phone at 406-262-3394 or contact HHS counselors.

Deadline for applications is midnight, April 1.

The foundation is offering four new scholarships this year along with the 17 offered in 2017.

The generous donors offering new applications include Havre High Class of 1970 in memory of the 35 classmates who have been lost since they graduated, they are awarding one $1,000 scholarship. Havre PEO Chapter V will be offering their $1,000 scholarship through the HPSEF process this year.

Havre High Class of 1976 is awarding a $600 scholarship and the Alfred and Catherine Bradbury Memorial $1,000 Scholarship is again being offered. Foundation directors said they are very happy these generous donors have entrusted HPSEF with the honor of awarding their scholarships. These donors join the generous donors that awarded funds to a deserving applicant for one or many years.

Continuing scholarships are Blewett Wrestling $500 and Blewett All-State Wrestling $1,000, two Gene Gabriel Memorial $500, HPSEF Memorial $500 — this year in memory of Cynthia Collier and a donation from HHS Class of 1964 as well as various contributors, Bart Nolan Memorial $1,000, Howard Miller Memorial $500, Friends of Music Band & Choir $750, Dr. James & Kay Elliott Memorial $2,000, two PEO Chapter AZ $500, C. Lowell & Vivian D. Purdy Memorial $750, Sue Swan Community Service $750, two Sons of Norway Heritage $750, Wells Lamey Blue Pony Pride $500, Thomas Lafond State Farm Up and Coming Entrepreneurial $500, and two Tillie Patterson Foundation Memorial scholarships.

We look forward to receiving several applications. The awards will be presented in conjunction with the Havre High School Academic Awards in mid-May.

The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to encourage and support excellence in education by raising, accumulating and disbursing funds to improve, enhance and support the educational opportunities for the students of Havre Public Schools.

Nine directors currently over-see foundation activities, Jack Maloughney, president; Rick Sedahl, vice-president; Julie Monson, treasure; Mary Pizzini, secretary; Todd Hanson, Becky Toth, Kyle Leeds, Karla Bolken and Lorraine Verploegen. Superintendent Andy Carlson serves as an ex-officio director and Cheryl Morse is executive director.
