Highway 2 Association meeting

Press release

The Highway 2 Association Annual Meeting will be held, Friday, March 2, at the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow.

The association  has been advocating for an adequate highway in the U.S. Highway 2 corridor since 2001.

Senate Bill 3, directing Montana Department of Transportation to construct four lanes — 4 For 2 — in the U.S. highway corridor across the state, was approved by the

Legislature in 2001.

Association President Bob Sivertsen said, “An adequate highway is the prerequisite for economic development in northern Montana. As it stands, our communities can’t compete for businesses that are looking to locate, relocate or expand.”

The meeting agenda consists of a look at the economy in the region and a discussion of highway projects in the corridor.

“The two Poplar round-a-bouts — $10 million — that are proposed will generate some lively discussion, as they are viewed as a waste of money when an alternative proposal can address the highway issues, including safety, for about one-third the cost,” Sivertsen said.

The meeting will convene at 11 a.m. and adjourn by 3 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend.

People are asked to RSVP by Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 262-2346.
