MDT seeks comments on proposed safety project

GREAT FALLS — The Montana Department of Transportation would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to complete safety improvements at locations in Teton, Pondera, Cascade, and Hill counties.

Proposed work includes the following:

Site 1 (Interstate 15 from reference post (RP) 318.4 to RP 319.0, north of Dutton): Install temperature-activated flasher “Watch For Ice On Bridge” signing for both north- and south-bound directions over the Teton River.

Site 2 (I-15 from RP 340.4 to RP 342.8, north of Conrad): Install panel delineation on both the inside and outside of the curves.

Site 3 (I-15 from RP 238.9 to RP 239.4, north of Craig): Install temperature-activated flasher “Watch For Ice On Bridge” signing for both north- and south-bound directions over the Missouri River/Dearborn River confluence.

Site 4 (Hill County Road 637 from RP 3.4 to RP 4.0, south side of Havre): Install arrow boards and standard delineation for curves.

Site 5 (I-15 from RP 341.8 to RP 342.2, north of Conrad): Install temperature-activated flasher “Watch For Ice On Bridge” signing for both north- and south-bound directions at BNSF Railroad/Dry Fork Marias River crossing structures.

The purpose of this project is to address crashes at five locations by providing enhanced safety features. The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2019, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
