Press release
Montana State University Hill County Extension Agent Shylea Wingard and Liberty County Extension Agent Jesse Fulbright will co-teach a Level 1 Master Gardener course starting Wednesday, Feb. 7, with a registration deadline of Friday.
This eight-week course will be held at the Senior Center, located at 15 First Ave. N.W. in Rudyard, with two-hour classes each Wednesday night from Feb. 7 to March 28 starting at 6 p.m. The $50 fee to attend covers the cost of the class reference book, “Montana’s Master Gardener Handbook.”
The master gardener program was initially started in 1972 by the Washington State Cooperative Extension Service to meet requests from home gardeners for horticultural information and education.
The program has expanded to Extension Services in most states and master gardeners have shared knowledge with fellow gardeners and participated in many community projects.
In order to become a certified level 1 master gardener, participants are required to complete the 16-hour training course plus 20 hours of volunteer community service.
Anyone unable to attend the first class but who would like to participate should preregister by Friday by contacting Fulbright, at 406-759-5625 or jlf@montana.edu; or Wingard, at 406-265-5481, ext. 233, or shylea.wingard@montana.edu.
Montana State University Extension is an ADA/EO/AA/Veteran’s Preference Employer and Provider of Educational Outreach. Anyone requiring accommodation for a disability to participate should notify the Liberty County Extension Office at 759-5625 or the Hill County Extension Office at 265-5481, ext. 233.
