Local man sentenced for stealing $1,700 tracking bracelet

A local man received a one-year sentence with the Department of Corrections for stealing a tracking bracelet he had been assigned as part of his probation.

Gary C. Standingchief Jr., born in 1985, was sentenced to three years with the DOC, with two suspended, for felony theft and also ordered to pay $1,740 in restitution. Standingchief is in the Hill County Detention Center.

A Probation and Parole officer contacted the Havre Police Department March 16, 2017, to notify officers that a GPS tracker had been stolen.

The GPS tracker was assigned to Standingchief Dec. 16, 2016, as part of his parole conditions. The PO said the last known location of the tracker was Jitterbugs in Box Elder. There had not been a point of transmission since Feb. 18, 2017.

The replacement cost for the tracker was $1,740.

Standingchief is a persistent felony offender. He has felony convictions of partner or family member assaults in 2008 and 2014.
