Bitter weather stayed socked into north-central Montana longer than earlier forecasts predicted, but weather prognosticators said it should start warming today, with the low tonight expected to be warmer than the high.
The seven-day forecast last week predicted Monday’s low would be 2 degrees above zero, while the forecast Monday morning called for 13 degrees below zero.
Instead, the low in Havre hit minus 30 at 11:45 Monday night, although it still was far from the record. That was set in 1907 at a frigid 43 below zero.
The Weather Channel predicts a low tonight 44 degrees higher than Monday, at 14 degrees. That is 1 degree warmer than the high predicted for the day, 13 degrees.
The high Wednesday is expected to be a comparatively balmy 33 degrees, with a low of 26 degrees.
Highs are expected to stay near or above 30 degrees with lows in the 20s Thursday and teens through the start of next week, when the low drops back to single digits Monday.
The forecast calls for highs in the teens and 20s next week, with lows in the single digits through Friday, then back into the teens.
Weather predictors expect a slight chance of precipitation Thursday through next week.
