Havre man ordered to pay restitution for Walmart theft
A Havre man was ordered to pay restitution to Walmart for hundreds of dollars in theft as an employee.
Tyler Stefan Larsen, born in 1985, received a sentence of six months in the county jail, all suspended, and was ordered to pay $900 in restitution.
After a trial, a jury convicted Larsen Nov. 17 of theft by embezzlement.
A Walmart loss prevention associate reported Dec. 22, 2016, that an employee admitted to stealing money from the retailer.
The associate provided a statement in which Larsen admitted to taking “about $5,000 to $8,000 over a period of when I started,” court charging documents say.
The associate also gave the sheriff’s office video footage and various reports that detailed cash shortages in tills.
“In all the incidents, the report describes footage capturing (Larsen) surreptitiously putting his hand in the cash bag and then putting his hand in his pocket,” the documents says.
“The total amount documented in the report is $1,571 which was stolen over a period of June 16 through Dec. 20, the document says.
