After a mostly brown November and early December, some wintry weather - including a prediction of below-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall in some regions - is coming to north-central Montana just in time for Christmas.
The storm is dropping heavy snow in northern Montana, much of which is under a winter storm warning through Wednesday, causing slick and hazardous driving conditions on the Rocky Mountain Front.
In Havre, heavy, wet snow fell through the afternoon, stopping overnight with light snow returning in the morning. More is expected to fall, with the heaviest part of the storm predicted to hit the Rocky Mountain Front.
The storm is expected to dump 18 inches to 24 inches at St. Mary and 24 inches to 30 inches on Marias Pass. The National Weather Service winter storm warning says higher elevations could see up to 4 feet of snow through Wednesday.
The forecast calls for 6 inches to 12 inches to fall through most of north-central Montana through Wednesday.
Through the rest of the week, the forecast predicts a chance of snow expected for Thursday during the day, which is expected to have sunshine, with the chance of snow tapering off by Saturday and Saturday night.
Sunday and Christmas Day are expected to see sunshine and continued cold. The temperatures are predicted to drop below freezing by Friday night with a low of minus 9 predicted Sunday and a high Christmas Day of zero.
