The Christmas spirit will be on full display next week on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation with three public events, including a two-day powwow.
Stone Child College will hold its annual Christmas Extravaganza Tuesday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m in the college’s Kennawash Foyer.
A flyer posted on the college’s Facebook page says everyone is welcome at the event which will include arts and crafts, home-made products, baked goods, beadwork, artwork, paintings and ceramics. People can reserve a space to sell their goods or get more information by calling Wilma Tyner at 395-4875.
People are also invited to the Stone College Library for a Christmas celebration Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m.
Joy Birdwell, the college's head librarian, said the party will include holiday-themed arts and crafts, cookie decorating and singing Christmas carols.
People will also get the chance to give Christmas letters to and have their pictures taken with Santa.
Bridwell said a free chili and cornbread dinner, snacks and soda will be provided.
The party, Bridwell said, is free and open to the public, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
The holiday celebrations will culminate Friday and Saturday of next week with the 2017 Rocky Boy Christmas Powwow in the Little Bear Gymnasium.
Grand entrees will be at 7 p.m. Friday and at 1 and 7 p.m Saturday Dec. 23.
The powwow is a drug- and alcohol-free event.
Dance categories will include jingle, traditional, grass, and fancy.
Prizes in the adult category are $800 for first place, $600 for second. $200 for third and $100 for fourth.
Prizes in the junior category are $150 for first place, $100 for second, $75 for third and $50 for fourth.
Tiny Tot dancers and noncontest drums will be paid daily.
