Obituary - Robert Alan "Bob" Matter

Robert Alan "Bob" Matter of Havre, MT, 66, passed away due to natural causes at his residence Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec, 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Saint Jude Catholic Church with Deacon Timothy Maroney officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorials in Bob's name may be made to the Sletten Cancer Center of Havre, the Saint Jude Thaddeus Catholic School or the charity of the donor's choice.

Bob was born June 16, 1951, in Havre, MT, to Edward and Alta (Watson) Matter. He was raised in Havre, attending Havre Central until his junior year, when he transferred to Havre High, graduating in 1970. Bob went on to attend Northern Montana College where he received an associate degree.

In 1975, Bob began working for Burlington Northern, where he spent most of his 36 year career as an engineer. He retired in 2011. He married Gail Lang in 1978 and the couple had two children. They later divorced. Bob met Suzi Simpson in 2011 and the couple married in 2017.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cherished his Tuesday get- together with his railroad buddies. He enjoyed watching his TV shows and loved Suzi's cooking. He liked to dance and have a good time. In his spare time he was building a paddle wheel house boat.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Carly Matter, and his parents, Edward and Alta Matter.

He is survived by his wife Suzi Matter of Havre; his son, Robert "R.J." (Katie) Matter of Lebanon, TN; his step-children, Lindsey (Brodie) Boreson of Vandalia, MT, and Brennan Simpson of Saco, MT; his grandchildren, Abby and Ryan Matter; his four step-grandchildren; his siblings, Ed (Judy) Matter of Havre, Art Matter of Hogeland, MT, Mary Ann Stenske of Orange, CA, Kathryn (Dave) Oyen of Kalispell, MT, Jim (Jeane) Matter of Belgrade, MT, Patty (Dusty) Schwan of Havre, Linda (Dick) Bretzke of Northport, AL, and Teresa (Larry) Kjorvestad of Polson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
