Obituary - Guy H. Holden

Guy H. Holden of Longmont, CO, passed away Dec. 1, 2017, at Lutheran Collier Hospice in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was 96.

He was born on the family farm Aug. 20, 1921, in Wilton, ND, to Albert E. and Helga (Anderson) Holden. Guy grew up on the farm with his 11 siblings.

He graduated from Wilton High School class of 1939 and attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck, ND.

Guy served in the United States Merchant Marines. He attended officers training in Boston with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged.

Oct. 14, 1944, he married Arlene Olson in Bismarck, ND. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2006. They had been married for 62 years.

Guy was a JC Penney manager trainee after college and then accepted a position with Gambles in Havre, MT, where he served as manager for 26 years. He was promoted to a district and promotional manager in the Denver area and surrounding states, and he became involved with research and development. Guy retired in 1985.

Guy had made his home in Longmont since 1979.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, both in Havre, MT, and Longmont, CO. He served as head usher for many years.

Guy was a member of the B.P.O. Elks and the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.

He enjoyed golf. Guy and Arlene enjoyed collecting and sharing art pieces from their Ricker pewter collection, international travel and spending time at their Vail timeshare. They loved their dog Mandy.

He was preceded in death by his son Rodney Holden.

Guy is survived by his son Lon (Barb) Holden of Great Falls, MT; daughter, Pam (Lance) Jonas of Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Jason (Marcie) Holden, Dustin (Stacy) Holden, Brooke (Jeff) Schmidt, Shane (Katie) Doyon, Christy Doyon and Curtis (Ashley) Doyon; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Violet Lowery and Esther McMullen.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Ryssby Church.

Cremation was entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
