Havre High Spanish Club ramping up for camp, Puerto Rico trip

The Havre High Spanish Club continues to work toward its educational goal of traveling to Puerto Rico in June of 2018. Club members Alex Barkus, Ashlin Rosgaard, Camryn Huston, Bailey Miller, Mercedes Springer, Mckenzie Walker, Sydney Scheresky-O’Neil, Kadyn Acor, Isabel Nogales-Romero, Junia Holland, Savannah Dawson, Jake Huston, Grace Loftus, Hailey Harkins, Talia Ralph, Ivy Thomas, Jaclyn Waldron, and Katie Wirtzberger, along with their advisors Marie Deegan and Diana Coy, have a number of fundraisers planned.

Their first event was the Crunch for a Cause fundraiser last Thursday at Taco John’s restaurant. Taco John’s generously donated 50 percent of proceeds from all sales where people mentioned the club fundraiser between 5 and 7 p.m. that day to the Spanish Club. Thank you for joining us for a good meal for a good cause.

Club members are currently selling Little Caesars pizza and cookie dough kits along with butter braid pastries. From mini pizzas and crazy bread to a s’mores gourmet pie, Little Caesars offers a variety of convenient yet reasonably priced foods. And butter braids make a delicious addition to any breakfast that in many Havre households have become a much-anticipated special treat on Christmas or New Year’s Day morning. Butter braids and Little Caesars kits will be sold through Saturday, and club members plan to deliver the merchandise Dec. 15.

Finally, the Spanish Club is pleased to announce the return of their highly successful Spanish Camp. Thursday, Dec. 28, we will host a one-day Spanish camp at Havre High School for first- through sixth-graders. Camp will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Campers will enjoy a variety of educational, cultural and musical activities lead by club members and supervised by their advisors. There will be food, fun and learning for all involved. More information will follow as the camp gets closer.

The HHS Spanish Club would like to thank the community for their past and continued support. In the last 12 years members have been fortunate to travel to Europe and Latin America, enhancing the education received in the classroom with real-life experiences. Meeting people from around the world, watching history being made, talking to native speakers, tasting new foods, and visiting exotic and exciting locales gives our Havre High students a unique opportunity — the world is our classroom!

If you are interested in purchasing or in having your student travel with the Spanish Club, please contact Marie Deegan at HHS by phoning 395-8550, ext. 6221.
