The Havre High School drama department is bringing the jungles of Africa from Broadway to the high school this and next weekend with its production of Disney's "Tarzan."

The Broadway play is an adaptation of the 1999 Disney movie "Tarzan," based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1912 novel "Tarzan of the Apes."

The play tells the story of an infant stranded in the jungles of Africa with his father and mother. After his parents die, the infant is adopted by the ape Kala and raised as a member of the band of apes to which she belongs.

His life comes to an even more dramatic turn when, as a young man, he finds a group of explorers including Jane, her father Professor Porter and the hunter Clayton, and has to decide whether he will go with them to rejoin civilization or stay in the jungle.

Aylan Pratt leads the 43-member cast playing the adult Tarzan, while Xavier Ulano plays the young Tarzan.

Marcee Murphy plays Jane, while Austin Nelson plays Clayton and Evan Davison plays Professor Porter. Aria Pratt plays Kala, Ammon Lines plays Tarzan's best friend, the ape Terk, and Trevor Bulkley plays Tarzan's ape father, Kerchak.

The play opens Friday with a performance at 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 performances Saturday as well as Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18. A 2 p.m. matiné will be performed Saturday, Nov. 18.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
