Letter to the Editor - Politicians are to blame for lost health insurance

Editor,

Health insurance companies are raising rates and dropping coverage all across Montana, and politicians are to blame. Business owners know they must understand their core business to stay profitable. Likewise, politicians who don’t understand insurance are mishandling the insurance industry as they burden insurance companies with ridiculous rules that increase costs without fixing the deeper problems. The dirty secret is that keeping Obamacare or getting rid of it are both terrible options. The truth is that the insurance system’s economic incentives inherently rewards practices and patterns of all kinds that gradually makes people sicker.

I have developed simple ways to provide insurance coverage to people that are cheap and comprehensive. My insurance system will inherently make people healthy. It’s not fundamentally broken like the system we have now. I am running for Senate so that I can implement powerful new solutions nationwide. We need politicians who are willing to make fundamental changes to the insurance system rather than tinker around the edges. Vote against any politician who does not know exactly how to fix the health insurance system.

James Dean, Havre

Republican candidate for U.S. Senate
