Fall season ends for MSU-N rodeo and golf

It seemed like perfect timing for the Montana State University-Northern rodeo and golf teams. Just as snow started to fly, both MSU-N teams were wrapping up their fall season.

The Northern rodeo team, under the direction of head coach Doug Kallenberger, competed in the final fall rodeo of the Big Sky Region last weekend, as the Lights and Skylights were in Dillon for the UM-Western Rodeo.

On the women's side, the Skylights finished an outstanding third with 140 points. Tara Lee Stimpson led the charge for Northern with a fourth-place finish in barrel racing. Stimpson had a best time of 32.50. Jayne Keeley also scored for the Skylights as she finished fifth in the goat tying with a time of 16.3.

With the fall season now over, the first-half Big Sky Region standings show the Northern women sitting in third place in the eight-team Big Sky Region. Calonna Slade is currently in ninth place in the barrel racing, while Stimpson is 13th. Kassidy Williamson is in sixth place in goat tying, while Keeley is in 10th place in the standings.

The MSU-N men are currently in seventh place in the Big Sky standings. Zane Marcenko and Clay Doney sit fourth in the team roping, while Victor Phillips and Toren Andreasen are 14th. T'Jay Allen is currently ninth in the bull riding and Shane Bird Rattler is eighth in saddle bronc.

The Big Sky Rodeo spring season will begin April 12th with the Montana State University Rodeo in Bozeman.

Meanwhile, the Northern golf teams also saw their season come to a close with the Warrior Invitational earlier this week in Lewiston, Idaho. Neither the Lights nor the Skylights took full teams to the event, so they weren't part of the team scoring.

On the men's side, Jerod Boles was MSU-N's top finisher with a 254 total. Boles shot rounds of 85-88-81. Ethan Partch finished at 339 and Trent Noel came in at 344 for the Lights.

The Northern women were once again led by Jenna Jensen, who had an outstanding eighth-place finish. Jensen fired rounds of 84-75 to post her third Top 10 of the season. Diana Ball placed 30th for the Skylights with a 202 and Megan Vandenacre shot 207 to place 31st.

Northern's season will resume with the annual Frontier Conference Championships April 23-25 in Tempe, Arizona.
