City Council approves selling New Year's fireworks

Havre Daily News

In a short meeting Monday, Havre City Council unanimously passed the only item on its agenda — allowing the sale and use of fireworks at New Year.

The passage of the second reading of the ordinance makes it officially part of the city code.

The changes are that the sale lot fireworks are allowed from 8 a.m. to midnight Dec. 31 and the use of fireworks from 10 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:30 a.m. Jan. 1.

The sale and use of fireworks in the city from July 2 to July 4 from 8 a.m. to midnight continues in the amended ordinance.

In other action, the city agreed to reschedule the public hearing set for Tuesday on a mill levy proposal to use on fixing and maintaining city streets. The date of the new hearing was not available this morning. A hearing on the subject also is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

City Council candidate Marc Whitacre asked some questions about the issue of allowing medical marijuana shops to have advertised storefronts. The questions were referred to the next meeting of the council’s Ordinance Committee, which is discussing the issue.

The next Havre City Council Meeting is Monday, Oct. 16.
