The online lending company owned by the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, Plain Green LLC, announced it has promoted Steve Parker to director of operations.
The company also announced it has openings for account service representatives and is now hiring.
Parker is a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe and has progressively advanced in his career from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to serving as tribal liaison for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and IT manager at Stone Child College before joining Plain Green in 2014.
“Steve has grown professionally and personally at Plain Green, and we believe other Chippewa Cree Tribe members can do the same,” Jay Abbasi, CEO of Plain Green, said. “He stays on top of the latest innovations and advises us on initiatives to remain at the forefront of our industry. At the same time, Steve reminds us to reflect the traditions and interests of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, as integral components of our business strategies. As a leadership team, we have found that staying close to tribal programs has reaped benefits for the community while guiding our service expansion to consumers who need us the most.”
Parker has more than 20 years of experience in electronics, engineering, information technology and operations management. While serving in the U.S. Navy from 1997 to 2007, Parker was earned the rank of electronics technician second class, E-5, and three Navy/Marine Corps achievement medals as sailor of the quarter for Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Foal Eagle.
He then served as an engineering technician at Trandes Corporation. Next, Parker was FEMA tribal liaison for the Chippewa Cree Tribe, where he supported projects totaling $33 million. Following FEMA, Parker was an IT manager and network administrator at Stone Child College, the Chippewa Cree tribal college.
Parker joined Plain Green as an IT facilities manager and advanced to become a director before being promoted to director of operations. In his new leadership position, Parker is in charge of the Plain Green contact center operations, ensuring quality customer experience and loan servicing. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in electronics systems technologies and project management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Parker also earned a Master of Science in information systems management and is currently working on an MBA from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management.
“This new role allows me to maintain my passion for technology and challenges me both personally and professionally,” Parker said. “Plain Green has provided me with many unique experiences as my career has grown. It’s been an amazing journey, and I hope that other tribal members would have an opportunity to do the same.”
The company also announced that due to growth in its operations, in October it will begin accepting applications and scheduling interviews for seven additional customer support representatives.
The company prefers to hire local talent whenever possible, it said in a release. Minimum requirements for employment include a high school diploma/GED or higher, no criminal convictions, and basic computer skills. Strong communication skills are preferred, and applicants should have reliable transportation to get to and from work. Starting wage is $13/hour with a possible increase in pay after 90-day probation period.
