There's no more time off for the Havre High golf teams, and the 2017 Central A divisional tournament will be here before the Blue Ponies know it.
After a week off, the Ponies returned to the golf course Friday as they took part in the Lewistown Invitational held at Pine Meadows Golf Club. The 18-hole tournament featured Havre, Lewistown and Browning, as well as a host of players from the area.
And the Ponies of head coach Brett Gilman showed little sign of rust.
The Havre girls finished second to host Lewistown with a team score of 428. All five HHS girls also posted Top 10 finishes, led by junior Teagan Fee, who finished third with a 98. Grace Litzinger also shot 98 and finished fourth via a scorecard tiebreaker. Senior Regan Lammers shot 115 to finish seventh, Kinzee Peterson shot 117 to place eighth and freshman Jocelyn Staples posted a 119 to come in ninth.
The young Havre boys also had one of their best showings of the season. The Ponies shot a 427 to finish in third place. Josh Warp led the way with a 102 to finish eighth overall, while Nolan Lotton shot 103 to finish ninth. Caleb Chambliss added a 108, Tyrel Kjersem shot 114 and Hunter Velk finished at 131.
The Havre junior varsity team was also in action in Lewistown. Clint Owens shot 122, Trennis Riley finished at 134, Jacob Miller and Joram Randolph each shot 139 and Colby Tilleman finished at 147. Freshman Mikayala Lindbloom shot 137 on the girls side.
The Lewistown Invite marked a busy stretch for the Ponies. Havre will take part in the Billings Central Invitational Thursday and the Laurel Invite Friday. Those tournaments wrap up Havre's regular season. The 2017 Central A is set for Sept. 23 in Livingston.
