The local acting troupe is once again bringing food, festivity and theatrical mystery to Havre in its annual fundraising event, Death By Chocolate.
"We put a little bit of a twist to it, that's all I can say about that," Montana Actors' Theatre Artistic Director Jay Pyette said.
MAT brings in a local twist to plays, movies or literarature for the local plays in Death By Chocolate, such as doing the game Clue with local officials and residents as characters or twisting "The Pirates of Penzance" into "The Pirates of Havzance."
This year's twist is on another classic, bringing Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland into HavreLand.
The night will include dinner, games and prizes and a chance for people to bid on being the sponsors for MAT's events through the next season - "Steel Magnolias," continuing the new Christmas panto plays with a tweaked version of "Robin Hood," followed by "Dinner with Friends," then the Valentine's Day celebation, "Sister Act," then a production of Pyette's play "Rugburns," with "Charlotte's Web" next and "Bugsy Malone" closing out the regular season.
The people who win the bidding on each play receive top billing in the credits and also have a special meal for eight served to them on the night of their choice of the production.
Pyette said the meal during Death by Chocolate will, once again, also be excellent. The meal is cooked by Jeff Ralph and the St. Jude Thaddeus School Booster Club.
The fundraiser is essentially a fundraiser for St. Jude school as well as MAT, Pyette added.
The dinner costs $40 a person or $75 for a couple, and people can reserve special tables for eight.
The Knave of Hearts purchase reserves a table for eight including some chocolate and drinks at a cost of $500.
The Queen of Hearts Table also reserves a table for eight with some added benefits - free beer and wine and unlimited game play for people at the table.
Dedicated Alices also will be serving the reserved tables.
Tickets can be purchased online through a link at http://mtactors.com or at Bear Paw Meats, Computer Center and fiveheads.
Pyette said the night is a way for people to enjoy themselves with friends while supporting MAT, which relies on community funding to put on its productions through the regular season and its youth and children's camps and productions in the summer.
"They're always lots of fun," he said.
