Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup: Knights keep their own crown

Week two of high school volleyball on the Hi-Line brought a pair of local invitational tournaments to the scene.

Friday-Saturday, Chinook and North Star hosted tournaments, with the Chinook Invitational and the North Star Showcase.

The North Star Showcase, held in both Rudyard and Gildford, featured pool play Friday before bracket play was held Saturday.

In the championship bracket in Rudyard, North Star knocked out Cascade to advance to the championship match, where the Knights then defeated Fort Benton by scores of 25-16 and 25-19 to finish an undefeated weekend. The Longhorns were also strong, defeating Dutton-Brady and their JV team in bracket play. In the third-place match, Cascade beat the Fort Benton JV while Augusta beat Dutton-Brady in the fifth-place match.

In the consolation bracket in Gildford, Big Sandy fell to the Cut Bank JV in the seventh-place match, while the North Star JV beat Sunburst in the ninth-place match.

After pool play wrapped up, the Chinook Invite moved to bracket play Saturday, and in a wild three-set match, Chester-Joplin-Inverness defeated Chinook. The Beeters rebounded to win one match in the consolation bracket, while CJI would fall to Cut Bank in the semifinals.

The Chinook tourney was dominated by the Class B schools as Glasgow beat Malta and Shelby beat CJI in the semifinals, while Glasgow took out Shelby in the championship match and Cut Bank defeated Malta in the consolation final.

In other action over the weekend, Great Falls Central beat CJI by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18, while North Country beat Harlem in four sets, by scores of 25-27, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-11.
