Corrections to the 2017 trapping regulations released

From Fish Wildlife and Parks

This week, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks issued a correction to the recently released 2017 Montana Furbearers and Trapping Regulations pertaining to future trapper education and future trap modification requirements.

The correction is necessary to reflect Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission action at their August meeting.

In the regulations, the corrections are to information on page 15. FWP staff withdrew a proposal to the commission to require trap offsets and thicknesses. Similarly, some elements of the education requirement were not part of the final proposal that was adopted.

The commission did pass requirements for mandatory trapper education and use of swivels. These will be phased in over time, and details are available at FWP’s website http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/trapping/.

The information in the “What’s New” section of the printed 2017 Furbearers and trapping regulations is correct.
