More than 90 students in need will have the opportunity Aug. 12 to visit and receive a back pack from The Salvation Army in Havre filled with school supplies and other necessities just in time for back-to-school.
The Backpacks for Kids Campaign will help kids, selected by The Salvation Army, throughout the community gear up for the 2017 academic year.
As part of the Backpacks for Kids Campaign, Cenex Zip Trip helped to raise a total of $71,000 for over 10 Salvation Army locations throughout the Northwest. Nearly 37 Cenex Zip Trip stores participated in the month-long fundraiser in July.
Over the last six years, Cenex Zip Trip has raised more than $250,000 for Backpacks for Kids. In 2016, Cenex Zip Trip raised money throughout the Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Bozeman, Livingston and Billings communities. For the 2017 campaign, the money will go towards even more communities including, Kalispell, Butte, Helena, Great Falls and Havre.
“Cenex Zip Trip is incredibly thankful for the generous support of our customers who donated to the Backpacks for Kids Campaign,” said Steve Haase, general manager of Cenex Zip Trip. “These donations, along with our corporate donations, enable The Salvation Army to help over 8,000 students be prepared for the upcoming school year.”
The kids chosen for the backpack giveaway are selected by The Salvation Army, using state and federal guidelines to assess need. All kids are students grades K-12, and most live and attend school in the Havre area. The kids will have the opportunity to choose a backpack of their choice filled with school supplies.
