Obituary - Evelyn Catherine (Bough) Baird

Evelyn Catherine (Bough) Baird of Cedaredge, Colorado, died July 19, 2017, at the age of 93.

She was born March 3, 1924, the fourth of five daughters to Edward and Anna (O'Connor) Bough who farmed their homestead north of Havre, Montana. After graduating from Havre High School, Evey moved to Great Falls where she launched weather balloons during World War II. There she met and married Rodney Baird from Salt Lake City, Utah, who was serving at the 352nd U.S. Army Air Force Base as an air-traffic controller.

She was a devout Catholic and devoted mother to three children: Laura Ann (Bartholomew), Michael Stuart and Stephen Peter. She enjoyed years of traveling and living abroad as an officer's wife, including time in Bermuda and Japan, before settling in Bountiful, Utah, where she worked as a secretary for the Davis County School District. After Rod retired, they moved to Sun City, California, where she worked as a loan officer for Bank of America.

Rodney's death in 1995 prompted Evelyn to move back to her beloved Montana to be close to her sisters. With her health failing, she left Lewistown in 2012 and moved to Cedaredge, Colorado, to live with Steve and his wife Janet. She is Grandma Baird to five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Evey's generosity in supporting various charities focused on the needs of children, along with the concerns of the local and worldwide Church. She was the last of the "Bough girls" to pass on. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown, Montana, Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m.
