From Tee to Green...
Tournament, and league, golf is starting to really wind down now. And, soon enough, a different kind of golf will take center stage.
Yes, the Havre Blue Ponies, led by veteran head coach Brett Gilman, are about to begin a new Class A golf season. The first day the Blue Ponies can begin practicing is Aug. 10, and Havre will have its first meet shortly thereafter. Golfers are reminded about the fall sports parent meeting Monday night at Havre High School, and they also must have a sports physical completed before they can participate on Aug. 10.
Meanwhile, the local golf scene will feature two big tournaments Saturday. At Beaver Creek Golf Course, The Swinging Sticks Scramble — formerly the Joe Rosette Memorial — will be held, while Prairie Farms Golf Course will host the annual Northern Montana Health Care Foundation Scramble. For information on either of these tournaments, contact the Pro Shop’s at BCGC and Prairie Farms.
In men’s league play at Prairie Farms, there are just two weeks left in the regular season, starting tonight. Last Tuesday saw Bing-N-Bob’s keep its stranglehold on first place by scoring 21.5 points. The team was made up of Jeremy and Jeff Jensen and Lunar and C.J. Evans. Kyle Miller went low, as in a two-under 34 for low-gross honors, while Dustyn Nyberg was low net with a 27.
Last Wednesday saw Chvilicek Farms take home high team with 23 points. Miller, Mason Sheppard, Alex Chvilicek and C.J. Evans composed the squad. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a three-under 33, while Dave Sheppard was low net with a 30. And, I was on the receiving end of that butt kicking. Thanks, and great playing Dave!
Meanwhile, last Thursday night was a big night for the ladies, as their regular season came to a close at Prairie Farms. Northern Montana Hospital, with Patti Nault, Carol Culp, Terri Earl and Kim Klein, and Prairie Farms, with Sarah Spangler, Amy Brown, Alysia Pedraza and Chandra Moomey, as well as Schubert Agency, with Susie LaSalle, Katie Beck, Micah Lee and Judi Adams, all tied for high team with 22 points. Anna Toner, Spangler and Mel Zuidema all tied for low gross with outstanding 39s, while Beck was low net with a 27.
D.A. Davidson captured the regular season championship with 217.5 points. Congrats ladies.
The ladies league playoffs begin Thursday night. D.A. Davidson will battle Havre Heating & AC, NMH will take on Scharfe Kato & Co., Prairie Farms faces Patrick Construction and Double R will face off against Independence Bank. Good luck on the playoffs.
Last Thursday night in men's league at BCGC, Valley Furniture was high team with 24 points. Billy Evans, Ryan Callahan, Spencer Ross and Mark Larson made up the team. Low gross was Justin Hawley with a score of 36. Low net is Kaare Enebretson and Paul O'Neal with a score of 29.
