Northern receives enrollment award

Montana State University-Northern received an award at a conference in Indianapolis for its use of a new enrollment and retention program.

Hobsons University awarded Northern its Admissions and Enrollment Award, while Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Green Bay, Wisconsin, tied for Hobsons’ Education Advances Award at the Hobsons University Conference, which ran this week Monday through Wednesday.

A press release about the award said Northern has been using Hobsons’ Radius admission and enrollment customer relationship management, or CRM, platform since Montana State University system partnered with Hobsons in 2015. Since this implementation, Northern’s Office of Admissions and Recruiting has been able to create a more efficient workflow, resulting in improved recruitment efforts, the release said.

“Before we had Radius and the CRM, we didn’t have a CRM. We didn’t know if we had the right email; we didn’t know if we were contacting the right student. We didn’t know what the student had told the recruiter, and with us only having three recruiters, and having a lot of them on the road, one recruiter wouldn’t have one student, so you could never build that relationship,” Maura Gatch, director of admissions at Northern said in the release.

“With Radius, we are able to build relationships, assign students based on location to a recruiter, and be able to keep track of what we have talked about,” she added. “Now, when we have a second conversation with a student, it’s actually an informative conversation.”

The other finalists in the category in which Northern received the award were California University of Pennsylvania, California, Pennsylvania, and Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado.

Northern will receive $2,500 to help continue its work in improving enrollment, while the other finalists received $1,000 each.

Arlington, Virginia-based Hobsons works with more than 12,000 schools, colleges and universities with more than 13 million students.
