Local Golf Report: Heat can take its toll on golfers

From Tee to Green...

Hot doesn’t even begin to describe the conditions on the local golf scene lately. Yes, it’s been sweltering.

I have a confession though. I like it that way when it comes to playing golf. I just feel like I can swing the golf club a little more loose and free. I feel the same way about it when I play tennis. Besides, soon we’ll all be complaining about how cold it is, and how long it is until we’re back on the links. Me especially.

On the league golf scene last week, Jeremy Jensen didn’t seem to mind the heat either. In men’s league last Tuesday at Prairie Farms, Jensen shot an even-par 36 to share low gross for the night with Kyle Miller, who also fired a fine even-par round. Bing-N-Bob’s was high team with 24 points, with Jeremy and Jeff Jensen, Buzz Pizzini and C.J. Evans comprising the squad. Willard Fladager earned low net with a 28.

Jensen then blazed the course last Wednesday night, shooting a 3-under 33 for low gross. Scott (Woods) Miller was low net with a 29.5. D.A. Davidson was high team with 21.5 points. Frank Peterson, Ric Floren, Dave Herman and Dave Greenwood made up the team.

In ladies league last Thursday night, D.A. Davidson was also high team with 24.5 points. Patsy Divish, Shari Baltrusch, Karla Bolken and Mel Zuidema composed the team. Zuidema was also low gross with a 43, while Sue Armstrong was low net with a 32.

The ladies are taking this week off, as some of them will be traveling to Laurel to compete in the 100th Montana State Women’s and Senior Women’s Amateur Tournament at Laurel Country Club. This is a very special State Am week, because it marks the 100th anniversary of both. It seems strange to think about golf courses in Montana 100 years ago, and where the game of golf is now in our great state. The 100th Men’s State Am will be held this weekend at the famed Missoula Country Club.

Best of luck to any of our locals teeing it up in those tournaments this weekend, and hopefully, we’ll have some scores for you next week.

The tournament scene also shifted to Beaver Creek Golf Course last week, where the MSU-N Diesel Tech Scramble was held Saturday. The field at BCGC was full. Hopefully, we'll get results from that tourney next week, as well as men's league results from BCGC's Thursday night league.

BCGC will host another big tourney this weekend, as the Havre Endowment Brewfest Scramble will take place. For more information on the tournament, call the Pro Shop at BCGC.

A reminder to all, From Tee to Green publishes every Tuesday through September, so, any tournament and league results must be sent to [email protected] by the Monday prior to the next column.
