Havre City Council voted 6-0 at its meeting Monday to accept a sub-recipient agreement with the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line, a necessary requirement for the club to receive a $421,000 community development block grant.
Council members Jay Pyette and Ed Matter were absent.
The community development block grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce was made to the city for the club project.
Mayor Tim Solomon said the project includes repairing the club’s roof, upgrading its fire alarm system, installing an intercom system, renovating the club’s gym and constructing a single bathroom for club employees.
Krista Solomon, wife of Mayor Tim Solomon and the club’s executive director, who represented the club at the council meeting, said today the grant is part of a $526,000 project. She said the club will have to come up with the remaining $105,000.
The grant was approved for the project in November. Solomon said the project is ready to go to bid. Construction is set to begin in late September and tentatively end in March.
FAA grant
The Council voted 6-0 to accept a $1,324,478 grant offer from the Federal Aviation Administration to rehabilitate the taxiway and runway at the Havre City County Airport.
Mayor Tim Solomon said some work has already begun on the project. Construction was set to start this month.
City Clerk and Finance Director Doug Kaercher said today the county, which is a co-sponsor of the grant, has also voted to accept it.
Kaercher said the project is expected to be completed about Aug. 25.
Street will be blocked off for Lil Shots Carnival.
At the request of Hill County Health Department, the council voted 6-0 to block off a portion of Fourth Avenue Friday Aug. 11 so the department can hold its annual Lil Shots Carnival.
A letter to the council from County Public Health Director Kim Larson asked the city to block off the intersections on Fourth Avenue and Third Street and Fourth Street and Fourth Avenue between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on that date.
The Carnival is held to ensure children are caught up on their vaccinations ahead of the new school year. The carnival also features games, art projects and an obstacle course for children.
