Another city championship was decided in Havre Youth girls fastpitch softball Thursday night at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field and this time, it was the B League that determined its champion.
The title game saw the team sponsored by Optimists take on Independence Bank. But as it has done all tournament, Optimist dominated, winning 11-2. The victory capped off an undefeated run through the tournament, which started last week.
Optimist, behind the arm of Avery Carlson, beat Independence Bank in its first game of the tournament and also knocked off Henry Construction on its way to the championship. Carlson, who also started the championship game, limited Independence Bank to just two runs and just a few hits. She was named the tournament MVP for her efforts. While Independence Bank struggled to muster hits and runs, Optimist scored four runs in the first inning and followed it up with four more in the second to take command of the game, which it never relinquished.
In addition to Carlson, the Optimist roster also includes Danni Wirtzberger, Lexie Lee, Natalia Valdez, Morgan Simpson, Mia Valdez, Emma Gillen, Elyssa Verploegen, Olivia Anderson and Savannah TheBoy. Tera Verploegen and Bridget Lee coached the team.
On the other side, Independence Bank featured Carolyn Thomas, Mylee Shennum, Kyanna Jarvis, Shea Reber, Audrina Williams, P.J. Morsette, Keylee Edgar, Molly Huse, Chloe Shennum, Hannah Kinsella and Grayce Harada. The team was coached by Stephanie Huse, Sara Edgar and John Shennum.
