A Havre Boy Scout is looking to help the Havre Community Food Bank through the summer with a food drive he is holding Saturday for his Eagle Scout project.
Jeffrey Hummert, 13, is holding his Eagle Patriot Food Drive because the summer months are tough on the food bank, he said.
Many families count on the meals at school to help feed their children, and with school out the demand for help goes up, Hummert said.
"Teenagers eat a lot," he added.
Hummert said he is trying to raise 1,000 pounds of food with the drive.
Hummert will gather collection crews Saturday at District 4 HRDC at 2229 Fifth Avenue at 10 a.m. They then will spread out throughout Havre looking for bags of food hung on doors, which they will collect and turn over to the food bank.
People can call or text Hummert at 406-680-2228 before Saturday to give their address and make certain their donation is picked up.
Boy Scouts will be helping Hummert with his project, but he said anyone is welcome to come help. He asked that people who want to help with collection and delivery of the food contact him as soon as possible.
The main items Hummert is looking for are ramen noodles, soup, peanut butter, pasta, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, drink mixes, rice, beans, crackers, canned stew, baking mixes, canned meats, toaster pastries, Hamburger Helper, juice, instant oatmeal, and macaroni and cheese.
